In the hours and days after the 2022 Academy Awards, when “The Slap” became the world’s unique label for an unforgettable showdown between Will Smith and Chris Rock, not even Hollywood’s adorable, impenetrable kids were immune to ridicule.

High on that list: Zoe Kravitz, who decried Smith’s slap with a pointed comment on Instagram from the party, “HHere’s a picture of myself on the show where we seem to be assaulting people on stage right now.” The Internet’s response (and ridicule) was so critical and charged with an already chaotic Internet moment (Kravitz deleted the post at the end). However, these days, she seems to be trying to make peace with the past fuss.

“I have very complicated feelings around her,” she says in a new interview with her. The Wall Street Journal. “I wish I had handled it differently. And that’s fine. Although Kravitz has her own regret about the situation, she also expressed that the circumstances surrounding her choice to remove the posts were somewhat “scary.”

“It’s a scary time to have an opinion or say something wrong or make art or controversial statements or ideas or whatever,” she told writer Hunter Harris. “It’s mostly scary because art is about conversation. That should, in my opinion, always be the goal. The Internet is the opposite of conversation. The Internet is people who put things in and don’t absorb anything.”

Kravitz also hints that the accident (and simply where she is currently in life) gave her legs to give up on the gratification of the internet and focus on her creative pursuits. Kravitz is currently making his directorial debut Pussy Islanda thriller with the cast including Naomi Aki, Simon Rex, Christian Slater, Geena Davis, Alia Shawkat, Kyle MacLachlan, and Kravitz’s current lover Channing Tatum.

“I guess I’m in a place right now where I don’t want to express myself through a comment or tweet,” she continues.I want to express myself through art.”
