ukrainian forces recaptured A strategically important suburb of Kyiv on Tuesday as the war with Russia approaches the four-week threshold.

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry announced that the forces managed to recover Makarev northwest of Kyiv, according to the Associated Press mentioned.

However, Russian forces were able to make gains in other suburbs around the Ukrainian capital city such as Bucha, Hostomil and Irpin.

The Associated Press added that Russian forces have not advanced in most other areas of the country, noting that they are struggling to control any large cities in Ukraine. Russian forces have reportedly fired more than 1,000 missiles since the invasion began last month.

Meanwhile, the battle for Mariupol continued Tuesday, with residents who fled the city saying bodies were scattered on the ground, according to the Associated Press.

The United Nations says more than 3.5 million Ukrainians have fled the fighting.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked US lawmakers last week to impose a no-fly zone over his country, a request rejected by the Biden administration.

Zelensky said he was no longer pressuring Ukraine to join NATO in an effort to end the war with Russia.
