To copy or not to copy? (G)I-DLE is accused of copying BLACKPINK’s software

A clip from (G)I-DLE’s performance at Jingle Ball LA, which featured many of the girl group’s hit songs. The members appeared in powerful black clothing. What’s more, (G)I-DLE’s Jingle Ball LA stage was accused of copying the famous intro to BLACKPINK’s “How You Like That” at Coachella.

(G)I-DLE’s leader Soyeon took on the task of getting the crowd excited with “What’s Up Jingle Ball, it’s (G)I-DLE,” which sounded similar in tone and style to Jen’s phrase. I get to say “Let me hear you scream” on stage at Coachella a lot.

Korean netizens believe that this over 80% similarity is definitely not a coincidence.

(G)I-DLE is a South Korean girl group under Cube Entertainment. Which debuted in 2018, and consists of five members: Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Wuji, and Shuhua. They are considered a fourth-generation girl group and are very popular. It is often praised that the group, especially leader Soyeon, has a high level of involvement in creating the group’s work.
