Destiny 2’s War Banner removes the assembly, shield, and iron banners

The new Strand aspects Destiny 2 added this season were, uh, interesting to say the least. Warlock’s Weavewalker has already been disabled, wreaking havoc in PvE by stabbing glass and assassinating his bow buddy. Hunter’s Whirling Maelstrom has yet to crack the game, but it’s fun to watch as it unfolds.

As for Titan? Bungie just created an all-new melee/sword/glaive-based architecture with Banner of War, which is now officially the best banner-related thing in the game, Dethroned Rally Banners, Shield Banner and even the Iron Banner. The best banner.

I was waiting for downloads to come back before trying this version, but curiosity got the better of me and it does great. I’ve always been a fan of the Stab Glass and I always see swords getting more love, this joins the additional swords I’ve gotten this season.

Here’s what Banner of War does:

Defeat a target with a knockdown, melee attack, or sword to raise the war flag that pulses with energy, periodically healing allies and increasing melee and sword damage. Targets you defeat and nearby allies charge the flag, increasing the frequency of its pulse.

Infinite ammo stabs are melee attacks, so they’re great to use with this one. Swords have become beasts in terms of reducing damage while guarding and dealing damage with recent changes to the number of times you can melee attack. This also works with things like One-Two Punch Shotguns to deal normal high melee damage. And of course the Strands’ original Frenzied Blade lines. And the new Monte Carlo catalyst!

The three main weird pieces of armor that most people use are all arms:

• Stronghold, sword buffing arms to become immortal with damage reduction and recovery.
• Synthoceps, this melee buff takes you back to the pre-Nerf glaive damage frenzy we’re used to seeing from these.
• ACD/O Reaction Fence, which was recently buffed to work with the shield charge and AOE can scan mobs when you engage yourself.

I personally have been using my old favorite product Synthoceps for this. Not sure if you got that perfect yet, but once you roll it up and stack Banner of War to x4 you’ll just be healed continuously, and sculpt objects with increased melee damage over glass or sword. or both.

It’s one of the most fun games I’ve seen Destiny 2 deliver in a very long time, and really leans towards Titan Smash! Philosophy and I love it. You should try it out with your favorite armor, sword and exotic arms, to see what all the fuss is about.
