A manhunt and schools were closed in Philadelphia after the escape

A convicted felon’s run was deemed dangerous after his dramatic escape from a prison in the northeastern United States on Wednesday, leaving police in the lurch and upending life in Philadelphia County. Schools are closed for security reasons.

A week after a 34-year-old Brazilian man, who was sentenced to life in prison days earlier for stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death, escaped, hundreds of officers, helicopters, drones and around-the-clock law enforcement officers are working around the clock. “Canine units are available to locate the fugitive,” Chester County prosecutors said.

On Monday evening, the man was spotted on CCTV footage from the Botanical Garden, which is normally open to the public, in Kennett Square, a small town west of Philadelphia.

‘Last night [mardi], a resident saw him again’, in the same area, reported Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. Crews searched for him for hours but were unable to locate him.

Authorities believe the man who escaped through the roof of the Chester County Jail is dangerous. A video of his escape, captured by a camera, was released by authorities on Wednesday, embarrassing prison officials.

In the extract, we see the prisoner, in a white T-shirt, blue pants and white sneakers, hiding in a gap in the courtyard, and then, in fast, Spider-Man style, his body climbs horizontally between two walls and disappears.

“You’re dealing with someone who doesn’t want to be caught and is desperate,” the policeman warned. He underlined the danger of looting houses to find something during his run.

Schools in both school districts were closed Tuesday and Wednesday, with officials apologizing to parents but citing safety concerns and the need to facilitate police searches.

Rewards totaling $20,000 have been pledged by the justice system and police to help locate the fugitive.
