A New York judge on Wednesday denied former US President Donald Trump’s request to postpone his scheduled testimony next week in a defamation case against a former journalist who accused him of raping her in the 1990s.

In this case, E. is known for being a columnist for “Elle” magazine. Jean Carroll filed a civil suit against Donald Trump in November 2019 in New York state court.

In June 2019, she alleged that he sexually assaulted her in the mid-1990s in the fitting room of a New York department store. He had never met her, and she was “not his kind of girl”.

The complaint was delayed by procedural wrangling, including whether Donald Trump, who was president at the time, should be represented by the U.S. government in the case.

“Adult Survivors Act”

For Judge Lewis Kaplan, the question was not definitively settled, but it could not delay the case any further, and E. Jean Carroll and Donald Trump were scheduled for Friday and next Wednesday, respectively, specifically because of the “advanced age” of the parties, 78 for the complainant and 76 for Donald Trump.

“As this court has already noted, Mr. Trump has attacked these proceedings since they began in 2019, with the intention of effecting and perhaps delaying,” Judge Kaplan said.

The magistrate also noted in his decision that the former journalist who allegedly raped her would seek damages from the former US president, regardless of the civil complaint, when New York state’s new law takes effect.
