A Texas lawyer on Monday dropped charges against a young woman accused of murder a few days ago for performing an abortion, sparking a national mobilization around her case.
Lizelle Herrera, 26, was arrested April 7, according to Texas County authorities on the Mexican border. He was released on $ 500,000 (465,000 francs) bail.
On Monday, a lawyer finally dropped the charges against him, according to a court document found by the AFP. “Examining the law in force in Texas, it is clear that Lizelle Herrera cannot and should not be prosecuted for the facts against which she was charged,” Gocha Allen Ramirez said in a statement.
Sensitivity surrounding abortion
