The United Nations peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL) said in a statement yesterday (November 25) that a force patrol was attacked by Israel in the village of Aitaroun in southern Lebanon.

UNIFIL spokesman Andrea Tenenti said that a UNIFIL patrol unit was attacked by the Israeli Self-Defense Forces yesterday afternoon, adding that a vehicle belonging to the peacekeeping force was damaged. But no one was hurt.

Mr. Tenenti said. “The attacks are on members of the peacekeeping force, which is dedicated to reducing tensions and restoring stability in southern Lebanon. “This is very worrying.”

Tensions on the Lebanese-Israeli border have accelerated over the past seven weeks after the Lebanese Hezbollah group fired dozens of rockets at Israel on October 8 in support of Hama’s attack on Israel the day before. This led to an Israeli military response by firing heavy artillery fire into several areas in southeastern Lebanon.

But the Lebanese News Agency reported this after a four-day ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas with Qatar and Egypt to mediate the negotiations, and as of Friday, the intensity of the confrontations on the Lebanese-Israeli border had decreased.

This was stated by a source in the Lebanese army, and 125 people have been killed in Lebanon since October 8, including 86 members of Hezbollah and 14 members of Hamas and Jihad. Amal Movement 1 and Civilians 24
