Russian and US diplomatic leaders are scheduled to meet in Switzerland on Thursday. But the show has been put on hold due to rising tension.
Within 48 hours of the scheduled date, there was ambiguity in the organization of US-Russian talks in Geneva. One such meeting is scheduled for Thursday between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. The two should specifically discuss the arrangement of the Putin-Biden summit.
But the escalation of tensions over the Ukraine crisis raises a big question mark in the event. The US diplomat had warned that the crowd would disperse if Russia invaded Ukraine. However, the United States is now talking about the “beginning of the invasion.” On Tuesday evening, President Biden announced the use of strong sanctions during the opening of the diplomatic channel. Regarding whether or not the summit will be held in Geneva, he said “there is still time to avoid the worst”.
