Lhasa, October 8, 2019 (Xinhua) – Sports Bureau of Southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region (Xichang) A report confirms the identities of four climbers who died or are missing after an avalanche on Mount Shishapangma on Saturday afternoon (October 7).
The report stated that two avalanches at an altitude of 7,600 meters and 8,000 meters above sea level killed American climber Anna Goto and Nepalese mountain guide Mingmar Sherpa. American climber Gina Marie Rosselló and Nepalese climbing guide Tenjin Sherpa were also missing, while another Nepali was missing. Climbing guide, Karma Gelgen Sherpa, was seriously injured.
The coordination officer of the Tibetan mountaineering team said that a total of 52 climbers were climbing the mountain when the avalanche occurred on Mount Xixiyabangma. In addition to the Sports Office, it is said that the injured Nepalese climber is out of danger. All climbing activities have been suspended due to unfavorable snow conditions on the mountain.
