Switzerland has exhausted its budget for natural resources such as energy, arable lands, forests and pastures. Since Friday, he has been living in debt until the end of the year, according to the NGO Global Footprint Network.
The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) said in a press release on Friday, Swiss Overshoot Day, that if the whole world were to live like Switzerland, it would need three planets.
The association points out that Qatar, Canada, the United Arab Emirates or Australia have already exhausted their resources in February or March. In contrast, in Cuba, Indonesia, Ecuador or Jamaica, Overshoot Day occurs only in November or December.
This proves that it can be done otherwise, the WWF underlines. To give advice on how to reduce your ecological trail: fly less often, reduce your meat consumption, replace oil or gas heaters with photovoltaic systems, heat pumps or wood heaters, and use public transportation without using a car.
