The sheriff’s report says Jeremy Renner was crushed by Snow Cat while trying to save his nephew

The car began skidding sideways after the “Avengers” star used it to pull his nephew’s truck out of the snow, and the parking brake, which wasn’t engaged, would have stopped it, according to the revised accident report, which was filed Friday. The document was obtained by CNN on Tuesday through a public records request.

The report’s conclusion read, “The Pistenbully snow groomer began to skid causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake.”

The report also states that the brake indicator light inside the vehicle’s cab is not working and that “mechanical issues may have been a factor in this accident.”

Renner was airlifted to the hospital, where he stayed for more than two weeks, underwent at least two surgeries and was treated in the intensive care unit.

The accident began on New Year’s Day, when Renner pulled his nephew’s truck out of the actor’s driveway after it got stuck in the snow, he told investigators as he was hospitalized on Jan. 5, according to the accident report.

After successfully pulling the truck out of the snow and onto the street, Renner said the snowplow started “sliding sideways,” then “started rolling downhill.” At that point, Renner told investigators he had jumped off the snowplow.

As soon as he was away from Pistenbully, he realized that he was heading straight for [his nephew,]Reads the report. “He was afraid you would hit Bestenbuli [his nephew]so he decided to try to stop or divert the straits.”

The report notes that to enter the snowplow cabin, Renner had to climb onto the moving track. When he jumped onto the track, the report says that was when Renner was “immediately pulled down the left side lane.”

The report concluded that it did not believe that weakness was a factor in the accident.
