Zheng He led fleets from Taicang on seven naval expeditions during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), bound for destinations in Southeast Asia, South Asia, and beyond. The crew has visited more than 30 countries and regions.

Zheng He’s expeditions pushed forward the ancient Maritime Silk Road. The fleet brought Chinese silk. Porcelain and tea are distributed to their destinations. They also share agricultural knowledge. Textile production and fishing for the locals creating friendly relations wherever we go

For the return voyage Zheng He’s fleet also brought back precious treasures such as precious stones, spices, herbs, and rare animals.

On October 27, a group of foreign journalists visited the Zheng He Memorial Hall in Taicang. It is part of the “Hi Jiangsu Media Trip 2023” activity to learn deeply about Taicang’s cultural characteristics of peace, cooperation and openness.

The event was jointly organized by the Information Bureau and Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial Government and China Daily. Foreign journalists participating in the event came from many countries, including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and the United States. Thailand and Vietnam, all countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.

The team visited Nanjing, Yangzhou, Liangang and Taicang from October 22 to 28 to learn about Jiangsu Province’s deep integration with the Belt and Road Initiative over the past decade.

Jiangsu Province lies at the intersection of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, which constitute the Belt and Road Initiative. Over the past decade, Jiangsu Province has taken advantage of its geographical advantages and played an important role under the Belt and Road Initiative.

This activity includes a visit to the Nanjing International Rapid Transit Train. China-Kazakhstan Logistics Cooperation Base (Lianyungang) and Taicang Port. To gain insight into Jiangsu Province’s efforts to enhance connectivity and trade between Belt and Road Initiative countries.

Mr. Abdul Wajid Khan (Abdul Wajid Khan), a researcher and journalist from the Independent News Pakistan newspaper, which he joined, said: “Jiangsu Province will continue to strengthen trade and economic relations with countries joining the Belt and Road Initiative. This will help these countries modernize their industrial sectors.” It takes advantage of the high-tech industrial capabilities of Jiangsu Province.

A replica of Zheng He’s ship will probably never set sail. But the great explorer’s legacy lives on in the busy ports of Taicang and Lianyungang. This facilitates the transportation of goods and spreads the principles of peaceful cooperation and mutual benefit to the shores of distant lands.
