The ancient city of Si Thep is open to free admission to celebrate Thailand becoming a new World Heritage Site.

The registered “Sri Thep Ancient City”, Phetchabun Province, is a World Cultural Heritage Site. It is considered the 4th Thai World Cultural Heritage Site after the historic city of Sukhothai and its satellite cities Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. and Ban Chiang Archaeological Site and is Thailand’s seventh World Heritage Site.

“Ancient City of Si Thep” History

The ancient city of Si Thep is located in Si Thep District, Si Thep Sub-District, Phetchabun Province. It dates from the late prehistoric period to the ancient Khmer culture. (8-18 Buddhist century) origin of the name of the ancient city of Si Thep. The local villagers call it Mueang Aphaisalee continued until 1904, when Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Krom Pray Damrong Rajanupab visited Phetchabun Provincial Government officials when she was Minister of Home Affairs. After that, the “Fine Arts Department” used to refer to the ancient city by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Sakri Sirindhorn. The survey identified Khrom Praya Damrong as the city of Rajanubab Si Thep until documentary evidence was found to confirm the actual name of this ancient city. The Department of Fine Arts has announced the registration of the ancient city of Si Thep or Paisali as a National Historic Site. In the Royal Gazette, Volume 52, Page 3693, dated the 8th March, 1935.

Studies on this ancient city were carried out by the Department of Fine Arts. This is also evident in archeology. Since its discovery, Si Thep has been preserved by various agencies and collected and displayed for tourists and visitors. Tourist arrivals are expected to increase. Especially foreigners give importance to this aspect.
