Stupid Stay, a 6-room, 6-style residence located in Charoen Nakhon that celebrates stupidity and the creative community.

“Stupid Stay” Just hearing the name sparks curiosity within us.

Not until 11 a.m. Thursday. We arrived at Khlong San, Charoen Nakhon district, and as soon as we passed near the entrance of Charoen Nakhon Soi 10, the smell of fried basil restaurant reached our noses. It made my stomach growl loudly.

Walk straight for about 50 meters and the map stops you in front of a two-storey building. The buildings have attractive colors alternating between green, yellow and blue, and on the left side of the building there is a sign that says “The Head and The Heart Studio, a design studio”. On the right side of the building there is a sign that says “Stupid Stay”. It is a boutique property that highlights the concept of a creative ecosystem, and proudly supports the arts. Promoting community tourism and taking an interest in visitor conversations

Naim Manasawi Wongbrado And Nan Navatsawan Sirisukon They welcome us with a smile, they are the owners of The Head Studio and The Heart Studio and after today they are about to become hosts. Waiting to welcome guests from all over the world He also told us that he is a big fan of the “Have a Nice Stay” column.

Naeem and Nan have been good friends since their studies at the College of Communication Arts. Chulalongkorn University Then we invited each other to study Masters in Design in the United States.

You can probably guess the story line. Because after graduating with a master's degree, the couple decided to open a studio in Thailand.

After two close friends created a studio that served as a gateway for him to explore the world of design and branding for many years. Coinciding with the change in the office location, I thought of creating another business to support beliefs and link the concept of creative communities (Creative Ecosystem), and this business is a small residence.

But the interesting part of this story is that Naim Nan has never lived before.

“I've been through stupidity over and over again,” said Naeem, and you can probably guess the story line of why he named his 6-room abode in the Charoen Nakhon area Stupid Stay, but! (Major sins) Ignorance is what leads to learning.

Tomorrow Stupid Stay will be holding an open house to celebrate stupidity or ignorance. They welcome everyone.

After saying that, shout loudly 3 times together, cheering, cheering, cheering.

Stay stupid

Why do you want to build a hotel? – we asked.

“Nam and Nan are two people who do things,” Naeem laughs. “We are two imaginative people. I have a lot of ideas about what I want to do. In the end, I decided to do an Airbnb because I wanted to learn new experiences.”

“We wanted to create a space where we could have some kind of conversation between us, the team members and our guests. Including creating some dialogue with the neighborhood community. Which could be sent to people outside as well.”

“And I want to meet travelers who are looking for something in life. I want to talk to the people who come to stay about who they are, where they come from, and what they like. And I want to invite them to get to know each other. Join in searching for it together.”

8 years ago, Naim Nan came across an old building in central Bangkok. Charon Nakhon is full of diverse cultures from Thonburi residents, travelers and tourists. Even the resident of this space feels different. But not isolated from the urban community and at the same time, we do not abandon our sense of community or region.

This area is undergoing development. Both are close to the Chao Phraya River. Close to creative districts like The Jam Factory, close to department stores like ICONSIAM, and just a 10-minute drive from Wat Arun Ratchawararam.

Traveling is convenient and complete with public transportation. BTS sky train, boat etc.

Two close friends immediately told us the origin of the hotel's name. It's like reading our thoughts that we wonder about.

Because it took 3 years to build this place. They both learned every process from day one of doing it. Although I had to wallow in tormenting ignorance along the way. But when this place is finished they have the satisfaction of admitting their stupidity. And there is no more appropriate name than “stupid accommodation.”

Stay style

There are 6 rooms available at Stupid Stay, including rooms for 2 people and rooms for 4 people, all decorated in different styles. Special for the art on the walls that is constantly changing.

As soon as we opened the door, we were greeted by the luggage storage and lounge on the second floor, this floor being a combined living, speaking and dining area. Plus, it's next to a small library full of design books.

The third and fourth floors consist of rooms, 3 rooms on each floor, and the upper floor is an independent area and a roof.

Starting from room 1, which is the largest room in the hotel and can accommodate 4 people (with bunk beds), inside there is a kitchen, a dining table and a very spacious bathroom. There is also a bathtub. Suitable for soaking in warm water.

Room 2 has a mid-century modern style, a bit dated, and the walls are made of wood. Decorated with red chairs, the balcony area extends outside. It looks like a square. It is an area that receives very beautiful sunlight.

Room 3 is similar in style to Room 2, but appears more secretive. Change the mood with the picture on the wall to one of flowers blooming. It's a bit like old-fashioned, but unique and modern.

Room No. 4 Bliss is inspired by Boy Rikyu, a salon from the Land of the Rising Sun.

Room 5, a neutral style, features the sparkle of silvery metal.

Room No. 6 is the smallest in the hotel. It can accommodate two people. Open the door and you will find a bed that guarantees you a comfortable sleep. On the side is a transparent glass bath. Place mint colored tiles that make the room look more amazing.

After clearing each room we go upstairs. This is a common area where you can sit and work. Or go out to breathe the air on the roof and feel relaxed and comfortable, as if you have recharged your physical and mental energy.

Stay creative

Stupid Stay aims to be a space that creates conversation and encourages creativity.

They both had the idea that in the future they wanted to do artist-in-residence. Before opening this residence, Naeem Nan invited an American friend who was a print artist to experience the team's printmaking workshop in Naeem and Nae's studio. N This person was also the first guest in this stupid accommodation.

“After finishing the workshop. “In the evening, we ate pizza, drank wine, and talked. We spent time together and it became more than just doing workshops together. “We agree that this is a very good thing because there is an exchange of ideas between creative people of nationalities, and this is the atmosphere that encourages ideas to explode.

“Friends say being in the same environment makes it stressful. “Traveling to stay here is like experiencing the studio all over again. Employees also gain new design knowledge. It really lights a fire in them. “

“At the end of the day, we all inspire each other. “It's the source of the idea for the Artist in Residence that will happen in the future,” Nan told us of her goal with sparkling eyes.

Stupid Stay will open tomorrow with an exhibition. 'Only Dumb People Are Happy is ready to open its doors to welcome guests from January 28 to February 4, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

An art gallery that embraces “ignorance” by taking risks, doing stupid things, and not being sure of what you will end up with, Naim Nan invites 8 Thai artists to join the exhibition, including: Not inspired by current events, A child from yesterday, Fatchboy, Fartboil, nnene.iie, I missed it, Nat Konyabat And Pontane Which poses the problem of “stupidity brings happiness” in its own version. When intelligence, skill or success may not always bring happiness.

Stay together

Originally, this alley was a community where families from different cultures lived, including Thai, Chinese and others.

“We want to build good relations with all our neighbours. Naim and Nan always thought we were next. We have to adapt to it. Choose to compromise with all parties because we have to live together for a long time.”

Naim Nan finds the Airbnb experience an interesting approach. They want to offer as much local charm as possible to their guests. It is another way of distributing income to people in society.

“We want to work with small businesses, from a basil shop at the entrance to the alley, a sukiyaki shop, a noodle shop, a fried oyster shop. The idea is to create breakfast coupons for guests to enter and redeem food. At a cheaper price. I want to draw a map of the must-see places recommended by our designers. Head and The Heart.

“What do we like? We want to share it with them,” the host said sincerely.

Here there is a rule: “Stop using your voice after 10 p.m.” Because the surrounding areas are full of people from many generations. If the sound is too loud, it may disturb the neighbors. This is because Stupid Stay respects the community and truly considers its people.

In addition to being a good friend to society we also intend to be a good friend to the world. In addition to waste separation, free clean drinking water service is also available. Support the use of personal water bottles. Reducing the generation of plastic waste

Naeem says he conducted research before creating an Airbnb-style accommodation and found that most people don't stay at an Airbnb a second time because they want a new experience, and if they go again, there is very little chance of that happening.

“Even if he doesn't come again. Naeem wants him to be able to tell stories about this place, like I went to Stupid Stay, and I came across this. Or do I come here and make more friends? If he gets something more than just staying in a hotel, That would be good.

“Nan wants Stupid Stay to be another place that stays in their memories, too.”

“I'll come back here again.” -We said goodbye but promised to come back again.

The host smiled widely after the conversation ended.
