SINGAPORE, April 10 (Xinhua) – The Singapore Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday (April 10) said the total number of e-commerce fraud cases reported in Singapore in 2023 reached 9,783, more than doubling from 4,762 in 2022.

The e-commerce market transaction safety assessments report reveals that nearly 50 percent of e-commerce fraud last year occurred on social media platforms such as Facebook, which found that fraud cases rose to 4,550 cases from 1,138 cases in 2022.

The rating is based on four categories: user trustworthiness; Transaction security and availability of remediation channels in the event of damage. And the effectiveness of anti-fraud measures on commercial websites.

The above report gave Facebook the lowest scores, while Amazon, Lazada, Qoo10, and Shopee received full scores.
