Rory McIlroy’s historic run ends with an unreal shot

Rory McIlroy finished off his brilliant final round of the 2022 Masters in style – and now he’s waiting to see if his job is enough.

McIlroy, 32, snapped a holeshot near the middle of the green at 4 18 and saw it take a long, perfect turn left in the cup for the seal ring birds in Augusta on Sunday.

The unreal shot gave him a last-round 64 (8-under par) to match the lowest final round in Masters history, and he joined Gary Player’s 64 in 1979. It is one of the record 63 held by Nick Price (1934) and Greg Norman (1996). ).

His stealth-free tour included six birds and an eagle. McIlroy, who finished seventh in the championship and never won the green jacket, moved up to second behind leader Scotty Scheffler (10 fewer at the time).

“That’s all you dream about, right,” McIlroy told CBS after his tour. “You dream of putting ourselves in the position. I wasn’t close enough to the top I don’t think. Scotty plays really well. But to play like I did today and then finish like this is unbelievable. The shot) is as happy as I’ve ever been on a golf course.”

Paired with McIlroy, Colin Morikawa also finished his run with a flying bird from the same bunker to finish the day at 4-under.
