PM2.5 dust is the worst enemy of the skin.

During the winter, many people look forward to traveling to attend various festivals. Instead, I have to travel without pleasure as always because this season often comes with PM2.5 dust. This increases every year until the morning sky turns into a white haze covered in dust and pollution. Which affects the respiratory system and skin

Dr Punyapat Limthongkul, resident physician at the Center for Skin and Cosmetic Hospital, Vijthani Hospital, said PM2.5 are dust particles smaller than 2.5 microns, or about 1/25 of the diameter of a human hair. This fine dust occurs from many types of activities such as engine combustion, construction, and industrial facilities, where the PM 2.5 dust exceeds the standard in both Bangkok and other provinces. It affects the respiratory system, cardiovascular system, and skin.

Effects on the skin can be divided into two types:

1. Acute effects will cause a rash and allergic dermatitis on the face or on the body in areas exposed to dust, causing acne, and triggering the same rash as before. To become more like rashes, urticaria, and psoriasis

2. Chronic effects: It causes deterioration of skin cells and causes an increase in premature wrinkles, pigmentation, blemishes and freckles. Because PM2.5 dust leads to the production of free radicals.

How to protect your skin from PM2.5?

1. You should wear clothes that cover your body when going outside the building, for example if you have to go to a very dusty place. You must wear a mask. Choose a long-sleeved shirt and long pants.

2. Avoid staying in areas with high dust values for a long time.

3. After coming into contact with dust, you should immediately shower, wash your face, and disinfect your body.

4. You should apply skin care cream regularly. At least twice daily to keep skin hydrated, healthy and a protective skin barrier.

5. In groups at risk such as children, the elderly, and people suffering from congenital skin diseases. Those who suffer from allergies should be very careful. Avoid contact with dust and areas with high dust values.

However, if you find abnormalities in the body, such as rashes, acne, or skin problems, you should see a doctor immediately. In order to get the appropriate treatment and return the skin to its original beauty.
