Google opens with music made in part with AI

Before the start of the Google I/O conference, attendees will get a free concert from indie electronic artist Dan Deacon.

He said that Deacon’s song, “When I’m Done with Dying”, was produced in part by Google’s generative AI tools. The background was created by an image generator that reacts to the song’s lyrics.

“I’ll be playing some songs, and a lot of the content will be created with Phenaki, Bard, and MusicLM,” Deacon said. – How leswing

This year, much of Google’s advertising is expected to center around artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence has become the hottest part of the tech industry, in part due to interest from OpenAI and rival Microsoft, which has combined so-called “large language models” that can output fluent text and image generators that can spit original images into its Bing search engine.

But Google has been heavily involved in creating these technologies, particularly engineering the adapters used by ChatGPT and other competitors. It has its own chatbot, Bard, which is currently limited to only a select number of beta testers. It also has one of the strongest departments of artificial intelligence, which was recently reorganized as Google DeepMind. – How leswing
