S Club 7 member Paul Cattermole has died just months after the British pop group announced its fall reunion tour. He was 46 years old.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected death of our beloved son and brother, Paul Cattermole,” said a statement attributed to the Cattermole family and band, published by the BBC.
The singer was found on April 6 at his home in Dorset. He was announced dead later in the afternoon. The statement indicated that the cause of death is currently unknown.
Dorset Police confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances. Paul’s family, friends and fellow S Club members request privacy at this time.”
S Club 7 reunites for their 25th Anniversary Tour with an 11-day tour of the UK and Ireland later this year. The remaining members of the group include Tina Barrett, John Lee, Hannah Spearritt, Bradley McIntosh, Rachel Stevens, and Joe O’Meara.
Cattermole was 21 years old when he found international stardom as part of the band. The group – created in 1998 by former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller – formed with Polydor Records and had a No. 1 hit with their debut single, “Bring it All Back”.
More hits followed, “S Club Party” and “Don’t Stop Movin’.” The youth-oriented sitcom—billed as “Monkees for a New Generation”—was broadcast in the United States on Fox Family and later on ABC Family, following the band from London to Florida in search of fame, fortune, and fun.
Cattermole left S Club 7 in 2002 and formed a rock band called Skua, which split up a year later. He joined S Club for a reunion in 2014. The singer also toured briefly with the production of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” but left due to a back injury. Cattermole appeared on the British talk show Loose Women in 2018, detailing his struggles with money. In recent years, he’s been doing tarot card readings, calling himself a “psychic detective.”
On the band’s official Instagram page, the band wrote that Cattermole’s death had “truly devastated” them.
“There are no words to describe the deep sadness and loss we all feel,” the band wrote. “We were so lucky to have him in our lives and we are grateful for the wonderful memories we have. He will be sorely missed by each and every one of us.”
