Packers sign veteran defensive line Garan Reed

The Green Bay Packers will add a veteran passer to the defensive line at the Free Agency.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pellisero, the Packers will sign linebacker Garan Reid, who was in Green Bay for a visit on Tuesday.

Reid, now 29, was a second-round pick for the Seattle Seahawks in 2016. He spent five seasons with the Seahawks, scoring 22 sacks and 58 leading hits over 72 games. He spent last season with the Kansas City Chiefs and made 2.5 sacks and 12 quarterbacks in 17 games.

Reed has had four career seasons with at least 20 pressings, according to Pro Football Focus. In 2018, he had 10.5 high-quality bags and 50 compressions as an internal guard.

Reed, who weighs 6-3 and 306 pounds, will team up with Kenny Clark and Dean Lowry to give the Packers a trio of inner turmoil. We expect Reed to be a fickle player. He’s been on the field for at least 60 percent of the shots in each of his last five seasons.

In 2019, Reed was suspended six games for breaching the league’s personal conduct policy in connection with an incident from 2017.

General Manager Brian Gutekunst had the money to dive into the free agent market after trading an All-Pro Davante Adams receiver. Since the trade, the Cornback Packers have signed Douglas Messenger, the end of Robert Tonian Court and now Reed.
