Danish high-voltage network operator Energinet believes this is the origin of the blackout that hit the Danish island of Bornholm on Monday morning. Near the site of the alleged vandalism From the Nord Stream route, a submarine power cable connects the island of 40,000 people to the mainland. However, the exact cause is yet to be ascertained.

“There is a supply shortage, and Bornholm has been without power since 7:50am,” an Energenet spokesman told AFP. “We think it could be coming from the (submarine) cable, but it could be coming from somewhere else in the system,” he said. Electricity should be restored on the island by noon, thanks to local generation mechanisms.

Explosions and vandalism?

The incident comes two weeks after the discovery in the east of the island Four major spills at two Nord Stream gas pipelines Connecting Russia to Germany is caused by underwater explosions and highly probable sabotage, according to investigators.
