On the Grand-Saint-Bernard road to Aosta in neighboring Italy, the Menove Valley above Etroubles is a great hubbub. On Wednesday, July 5, a woman was walking in the hills with her husband and a small dog. The latter was walking a few dozen meters from his masters when an eagle swooped down from the sky and pounced on the pet. “He crushed him with his sheet and we ran to save him, but it was too late,” the woman told “La Repubblica”.

The eagle may have taken the little dog to a groundhog and tried to feast on it. The intervention of the owner and her husband prevented the raptor from flying off with its prey, a dog weighing less than eight kilos. But the animal did not survive the attack.

“This is the first time we have seen a tragedy like this. Explain to the rangers that the eagle must have taken the little dog to hunt an animal. If he had been close to his owners, this would not have happened. The story spread like wildfire, and its people are afraid of new eagle attacks on their four-legged friends. .
