Microsoft’s new default font and theme for Office will arrive in September

Microsoft is currently testing a new default Office theme that will be rolled out to all Microsoft 365 subscribers next month. Microsoft says it’s updating the default Office theme with a new Aptos font, a new color palette, and updated default font styles and weights.

Aptos, the new default font for apps like Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel, will replace Calibri next month after more than 15 years. The font change will also be combined with changes made to the default style and color palette used in documents.

The biggest change to the color palette is that the yellow is removed and replaced with a dark green, and one of the shades of light blue is replaced with a dark teal. This should result in better contrasts between the shapes and fonts available in Office documents.

The default style in Word and Outlook is also updated to “make them easier to read, look more professional, and easier to navigate”, According to Jess Cookproduct manager for Microsoft 365 Apps.

Microsoft began testing these changes with Microsoft 365 Insiders in July and the company says now It will be rolled out to all users sometime in September.
