Klopp confirms Moises Caicedo deal amid interest from Chelsea

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has spoken out about Liverpool’s deal with Brighton for Moises Caicedo, with reports that Chelsea remain interested in the midfielder.

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp confirmed that the club had reached an agreement with Brighton to sign midfielder Moises Caicedo, but sources told ESPN that the player would prefer to move to Chelsea.

The sources added that Chelsea are now considering whether to improve their offer for the 21-year-old in a bid to rival Liverpool’s bid.

Liverpool received a record £111m ($141m) British transfer bid which Brighton accepted after Chelsea had hoped to close a £90m deal.

“I can confirm [Moises Caicedo] “The agreement with the club is agreed upon, whatever that means in the end,” Klopp told a news conference on Friday.

“Of course, we want the player, not just the agreement. We don’t have endless resources.

“We didn’t expect a couple of things to happen over the summer, but when it did, we gave it a shot. Let’s see what happens and go from there.”

Klopp was previously critical of teams spending big on transfers, but said the transfer market had changed.

Klopp said: “Everything has changed. Do I like it? No. Did you realize I was wrong? Yes.” “I don’t blame anyone, it just has to do with the market.

“Ultimately, we as a team have to make sure that, with our resources, we get the best possible player.

“We’re not in dreamland and we can’t just point to a player and let them in. Sometimes one door closes and another opens.”

Meanwhile, Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi said Caicedo was out of his mind as he prepared his team for the Premier League season opener against Luton Town on Saturday.

“I already forgot about Moises. I’m really proud of the players we have in the team,” De Zerbi told a news conference on Friday.

“We want to keep improving. The credit goes to the club. Big clubs can buy our players but they can’t buy our soul or our spirit.

“We don’t have enough [players] So far, we need to complete the team. I want players who want to come here. We are Brighton, we hit a big goal last year – like Liverpool, better than Chelsea. I would like two players who are proud to play for Brighton.”
