Last year, with speculation rampant about the 49ers’ plans for a third overall pick in the draft, coach Kyle Shanahan joined GM John Lynch for the team’s pre-press press conference.

This year, with the recipient Debo Samuel Shanahan admitted last week that he asked to be traded, the specter of a pre-draft session with reporters.

“He’s always invited,” Lynch said Monday when asked about Shanahan’s absence. “Last year, on a whim, I think he wanted to have some fun, so he came and joined me, but I just left him and he was actually, we were studying a few different scenarios at the age of 61, so that’s what they were doing when I last left him. And I think it was Pretty busy with it, so she hung up with me.”

Yes, it is important to focus on what will happen on Friday night, when the 49ers are on the clock after making 60 choices. With 18 hours or so of dead time between the end of the first round and the beginning of the second round.

The truth certainly is that Shanahan decided to walk away from the media at a press conference that would have included more questions about Samuel’s trade request, whether the team would agree to it, and what the team did or failed to get Samuel to the point. So he decided he wanted out.

Come on, Kyle. I know you don’t like”annoying‘, but how do you hide your head in the sand when one of the team’s best players wants out? Everyone knows you, not Lynch, it’s up to you. You have to chime in with this, sooner rather than later.
