Right on cue, Apple ramps up iOS 17 development And other new updates coming this year. Apple has pushed updates to some of its open source documentation referring to iOS 17, while the software version has been increasingly featured in 9to5Mac analytics.
On the other hand, there is a false rumor circulating about providing details about what’s new in iOS 17…
iOS 17 development and schedule
Each year, Apple begins updating its various open source repositories with reference to upcoming iOS, macOS, and watchOS updates. This year is no different, as Apple added references to iOS 17, watchOS 10, and macOS 14. Oftentimes, Apple will refer to future releases as “TBA” to hide their actual version numbers, but sometimes the references get stuck.
Not surprisingly, these open source repositories don’t confirm anything about what to expect from this year’s updates.
while, 9to5Mac iOS 17 has seen a sharp spike in Google Analytics data since the beginning of December, which is a regular occurrence at this time of year. The surge at the start of the new year indicates that the number of people inside Apple who are testing iOS 17 is increasing.
iOS 17, macOS 14, watchOS 10, iPadOS 17, and tvOS 17 are scheduled to be announced at WWDC in June and will be released in September and October. This year, updates will also accompany the launch of Apple’s Reality Pro headset, which will introduce an entirely new operating system to Apple’s lineup.
Apple has not yet announced the dates for WWDC. We also do not know if the conference will be A hybrid of in-person and virtual event Like last year, or maybe back to A completely personal event.

Beware of these fake iOS 17 rumors
With Apple’s focus on the Reality Pro headset and its software, bloomberg It has been reported that iOS 17 will feature “fewer major changes than originally planned”. The same is said to also apply to iPadOS 17 and macOS 14, which Gurman says is codenamed “Sunburst.”
Separately, a bogus iOS 17 rumor (we won’t bother linking it) is making the rounds this week. The rumor comes from a Twitter account known for phishing and misinformation. However, the false rumors were picked up by a number of different people other news outlets.
Rumors are that Apple has “big changes” to its Store for the Home app, updates to “Navigation” in the Music app, and more. But again, these claims carry no weight.
