Internal emails reveal that Microsoft rushed to invest in OpenAI because it was afraid of Google.

This year is the year when competition in the AI space is intense, as the industry is being opened up with OpenAI's ChatGPT, so much so that Microsoft has to rush to invest with OpenAI in order to become a leader in this industry.

According to one email, Microsoft is deeply concerned about Google's capabilities in artificial intelligence, or what we used to call it, with then-Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott telling CEO Satya Nadella and Bill Gates that AI-powered autocomplete Google's artificial/completion system is getting frighteningly better, and it's scary that Microsoft is still lagging behind Google in terms of machine learning or machine learning metric.

The email, titled “Thoughts on OpenAI,” was published on Tuesday. It's part of the Justice Department's antitrust lawsuit against Google.

After the emergence of ChatGPT, investors and the general public have become more interested in artificial intelligence, which can be said to be the main trend of this year. Microsoft has been quick to invest in OpenAI and bring AI capabilities to the company's products, for example, Bing and Microsoft 365. Is Microsoft 365 the first of the big tech companies to penetrate the AI market so quickly, making people think that Google is following suit?

Google, an AI leader, was quick to launch AI-related products to avoid straying too far from Microsoft, such as Bard, which was later rebranded as Gemini with several new features.
