Daniel Jones’ agent switch adds intrigue, and could complicate the Giants offseason

The switch definitely adds intrigue to the situation. To me, this is a clear indication that Jones was not happy about something.

So what does Jones want? There are two possibilities. One, that he was willing to make a deal for less than CAA was willing to accept. Second, he wants more than CAA has been able to get.
As one source explained, it’s the latter. Jones wants more than the Giants have offered. Maybe up to $45 million a year, or more.
New York Post The Athletes First are reported to have negotiated the largest deal in NFL history (at the time) on five occasions. The Athletes First are represented by quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers (No. 1 in the NFL in average annual value), Dak Prescott, Deshaun Watson (five years, $230 million fully guaranteed) and Matt Ryan.
So yeah, this could be a strong move by Jones.
This could also make it more likely that the Giants will be forced to use the franchise tag on Jones, which is something of a prior New York Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum It was recently speculated on the “Valentine’s Views” podcast.:

Like them, the Giants enjoyed a stellar season of running back and surprising performance from their quarterback, just as both players were on the brink of going free agency. . Maintaining both without making a mistake was a challenge.

The rampant tampering in the Boy Scouts’ pool will aid in this effort. Barkley will know what’s and isn’t out there before making a final decision on anything the Giants have to offer. Which could result in Barkley being re-signed before, or possibly during, the two-day negotiation window.
It is unclear what Barclay’s market will be. He’s had five years of NFL wear and tear, and he plays a position that produces a lot of impacts that can lead to a lot of injuries. Long-term investment may come with increased risk for the team that provides it.

New York Giants Needed Position: Wide Receiver
It’s hard to pick just one location the Giants need as they enter their second year of rebuilding. You could argue the importance of the inside linebacker, the offensive lineman, or even the secondary. They just need more depth and quality in a variety of positions to ensure more playoff progression under head coach Brian Dabul. But if we had to pick one position, we’d go with receiver because the Giants intend to keep quarterback Daniel Jones. So it’s essential to give him some offensive weapons to work with after dealing with a rotating cast of characters last season. Given the lower-than-all-star free agency class and the money that will be spent on Jones and possibly Saquon Barkley, the draft pick is probably New York’s best option.

Much of the preseason chatter focused on the Giants needing to change their culture, instill confidence in players, and find some quality players. Mission accomplished almost from day one with new coach Brian Dabul. Quarterback Daniel Jones had his best season and earned a huge paycheck despite his poor receiving reception. Healthy at last, star running back Saquon Barkley is as much a game-breaker as he was a rookie. The rebuilt defense was dynamic at times, especially in the trenches. This is a team on the rise.
