Florence Pugh says people are intimidated by the “freedom” she feels with her body

Hollywood star Florence Pugh has spoken out once again about the criticism she received last year for wearing a sheer dress that made her nipples visible, saying, “It’s the freedom people are afraid of.”

And the “Oppenheimer” star taped an interview with Elle Magazineposted on Wednesday to revisit the body-shaming comments that were sent to her after she appeared in a halter-neck sheer pink tulle Valentino dress at the brand’s show in Rome in July 2022.

Pugh offered up the idea behind the dress and her reaction to the backlash.

She said, “I talk the way I talk about my body because I’m not trying to hide the cellulite on my thighs or the cuttlefish between my arms and my breasts: I’d rather reveal everything.”

“I think the scariest thing for me are the instances where people were upset because I showed ‘too much’ of myself.

“When things went wrong with my pink Valentino dress a year ago, my nipples were showing through a piece of fabric, which really pissed people off. It is the freedom that people fear. “The fact that I’m relieved and happy,” Pugh added.

“Keeping women down by commenting on their bodies has worked for a very long time. I think we’re in this swing now where a lot of people are saying, ‘I don’t care,'” she continued. “We need to keep reminding everyone that there is more than one reason women’s bodies are [to exist]”.

Pugh was speaking to Elle after being named a “British icon” at the magazine’s awards ceremony.

This isn’t the first time the 27-year-old actress has responded to the backlash her outfit received last July. And she spoke frankly about the “aggressive” and “vulgar” comments that were made about her breasts and nipples in one of the photos. Instagram share on time.

“The interesting thing to watch and watch is how easy it is for men to destroy a woman’s entire body, publicly, proudly, for all to see,” she said.

“It’s not the first time and it certainly won’t be the last time a woman has been told what is wrong with her body by a crowd of strangers, what is troubling is how vulgar some of you men are.”

Pugh went on to ask, “Why are you so afraid of breasts?”
