Dolphins dominate Tua Tagovailoa, set up Skylar Thompson to start at QB

Miami – Miami Dolphins quarterback Toa Tagovailoa He was ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills, head coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday.

The third-year pro has been on concussion protocol since December 26 after suffering his second documented concussion of the season the day before in a loss to the Green Bay Packers. The team signed the nine-year veteran Mike Glennon to her training team last week.

There has been no set timetable for Tagovailoa’s return over the past two weeks, with McDaniel saying he was advised by medical professionals that it was critical that Tagovailoa “focus only on the day he lives.” The first-year coach declined to speculate on Tagovailoa’s football career, saying he focused on the quarterback “getting full health as a human being.”

Miami recruited Thompson as a seventh-rounder in 2022 out of Kansas State, and the 25-year-old has made six appearances this season. The Dolphins’ Week 18 win over the New York Jets marked the first time he had played an NFL game to the end, and McDaniel drew attention to the difficulty of what was being asked of a rookie.

“I’m not sure if anyone really understood the gravity of what he was able to achieve,” said McDaniel. “It depends on the reps that they do individually after training every day, some scouting team reps and then whatever he did in the preseason. To jump into a fully functional machine and then do that — I’m all too familiar with scoring, but we’re talking about No turnover, one cyst… It wasn’t an easy test.

“The way Skyler thinks, he hopes it will be the worst match he’s ever played.”
