Dave Grohl burst into tears on stage as he sang “Times Like This” at the Taylor Hawkins Tribute concert at Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday.
The 53-year-old leader of the Foo Fighters was performing with his band at the star-studded event that honored his late bandmate, who He died unexpectedly in March At the age of fifty.
“It’s times like this when you learn to live again,” Grohl sang, clutching the microphone as tears rolled down his face.

“It’s times like this that you give and give back,” he continued, crackling over the last two words of the lyric.

18 times Grammy Award The winner paused and wiped his face as the audience erupted in cheers of support. For a few moments, he struggled to continue performing before resting his forehead on the microphone and shaking his head.
Grohl gathered on himself, though it was clear that he was overcome with passion. He started singing again before launching into the next uptempo part of the 2002 song when he was rocking out with his bandmates. The touching moment was quickly shared in clips posted by fans on Twitter.
The six-hour concert on Saturday featured an all-star lineup Dave ChappelleElton John, Paul McCartney, Jason Sudeikis, William Gallagher, and Travis Parker among others, where some of music’s biggest names came together to celebrate the late drummer’s life.
These were the first of two tribute concerts they had planned to honor the surviving band members and the Hawkins family. The second concert will take place on September 27 at the Kia Forum Los Angeles. Proceeds from both concerts will be donated to charities Music Support and MusiCares.

According to NME, Grohl began the night with an emotional speech after the audience began chanting Hawkins’ name, telling the crowd, “Ladies and gentlemen, tonight we are gathered here to celebrate life, music and our love. My dear friend, our bandmate, our brother Taylor Hawkins.”
“For those who knew him personally, you know that no one else can make you smile, laugh, dance, or sing as well as they can,” hit maker I continued. “And for those of you who admired him from afar, I’m sure you all felt the same.”
Grohl added, “So tonight we gathered with his family and best friends, the heroes of his music and their greatest inspirations, to bring you a wonderful night for a wonderful person.”

And he added, “So, sing. And dance. And laugh. And cry and scream and make some noise, so he can hear us now.” “Because you know what? It’s going to be a long night, isn’t it? are you ready? “
Hawkins died March 25 at the Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina in Bogota, Colombia, hours before the Foo Fighters’ scheduled performance at the Estéreo Picnic Festival. Emergency services were called to the hotel after he began experiencing chest pains. He was found unresponsive when they arrived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hawkins died on March 25 at the Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina in Bogota, Colombia.

The Colombian attorney general’s office announced the next day that ten different substances were found in a preliminary urine toxicology test, including opiates, benzodiazepines, THC and tricyclic antidepressants. An official cause of death was not revealed.
In addition to being bandmates, Grohl and Hawkins share a very close friendship. The musician referred to Hawkins as “my brother from another mother, my best friend, the man I take a bullet for,” in his 2021 memoir “The Storyteller.”
After his death, the band released a statement on Twitter that read: “The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and sudden loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins.”
“His musical spirit and infectious laugh will live on with us all forever. Our hearts are with his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect at this unimaginably difficult time.”
The band subsequently canceled all scheduled concerts in order to mourn the loss of Hawkins. Saturday’s concert was the Foo Fighters’ first performance since Hawkins’ death.
