Thailand is hosting a major international environmental symposium, FIDIC Asia-Pacific Conference 2023, under the theme “Engineering towards Net Zero” organized by the Society of Consulting Engineers of Thailand (TCI). The event brought together Thai and foreign engineering experts. In the construction industry, government representatives, including those concerned with the environment, and FIDIC ASIA PACIFIC members from more than 20 countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Australia, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Japan, Korea, China, etc. The Thai government sector attended the opening of Dr. Perun’s event. Sayasitpanich Secretary-General of the Office of Natural Resources, Environmental Policy and Planning, Dr. Chatchart Sithephan, Governor of Bangkok from 26-28 November 2023

Dr Biron Sayasitpanish, Secretary-General of the Office of Natural Resources, Environmental Policy and Planning, said: “Engineering towards net zero is changing the structure of the global economy. To be a low greenhouse gas or carbon emission economy. Thailand has set a short-term target of 2030 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% to 40%. The government will work to encourage the use of renewable energy. Public transportation, an agricultural railway system that uses less water, supports climate technology or technology that controls or reduces greenhouse gas emissions, receive more special privileges with regard to the Board of Investment and various taxes.

Dr. Chachart Sithevan, Governor of Bangkok added that “The important thing is how to prevent the word Net Zero from being just a slogan for Bangkok. There is a policy to reduce the amount of energy used. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions A campaign to use LED lights which are of good quality and save energy Reducing energy use in buildings Reducing car use, reducing waste generation and knowing how to separate waste, Bangkok therefore sets a short-term goal of: It will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 3% annually.

Chawalit Chandrarat, President of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Thailand, said: “The challenge of transitioning Thailand to net zero is to change the mindset of those involved in the construction business. Designers, engineers, architects, entrepreneurs, investors and consumers need to be seriously aware of this. Although Production costs may increase by 10%, but it is a cost that will help reduce energy use over the next 30 years.

While Niwat Thanapetinan, Chairman of the FIDIC Asia-Pacific Conference 2023, said that members of FIDIC Asia-Pacific or the International Federation of Consulting Engineers and more than 20 countries in the Asia-Pacific region have appointed Thailand to host the event. We chose the topic Net Zero because we wanted to show that Thailand is aware of this issue and it is the main duty of the association. It is to create awareness among project owners that building green buildings or buildings that preserve the environment is something that must be done, as it is good for the project and good for the whole world.

Seminar topics such as green building innovations towards net zero by SCG Thailand, and wastewater treatment on the way to net zero by Thammasorn Energy and Environmental Management Co., Ltd. Thailand, Will EVs Really Help Thailand Reach Net Zero? Amita Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Thailand. Interesting seminar topics from other countries, such as lessons learned from Suwon, South Korea, which achieved carbon neutrality through community collaboration, and net-zero building in Malaysia and Vietnam and guidelines for its reduction. Carbon in buildings Indonesia and building buildings that do not produce waste. India, Philippine hydropower, renewable energy, Sri Lankan local technology, etc. In addition, there is a business matching activity to exchange business knowledge. Including promoting Thailand’s soft power through the Low Carbon Loy Krathong Festival along the Chao Phraya River. Including a discussion of the future and challenges in the work of FIDIC or International Federation of Consulting Engineers. It is the global representative organization for the National Societies of Consulting Engineers and represents more than one million engineering professionals and 40,000 companies in more than 100 countries around the world. Which should lead members to reach the net zero goal
