China maintains the title of world champion in exporting goods for 7 years in a row. Thailand expects to grow by 2% this year.

In 2023, Xinhua News Agency reported China is also the world's leading exporter of goods.For the seventh year in a row, it accounts for 14.2% of the global export share, while it remains the second largest importer of goods in the world. Of the 10.6% share of global imports, according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

As for China, it continues to maintain stable performance in global merchandise trade. Although the global economic recovery is facing difficulties and the current situation remains highly uncertain. Because there are many risk factors, both regional conflicts, geopolitical tensions and the expansion of trade protectionism. As for Thailand, during the first two months of this year (January – February 2024) the export sector witnessed a growth of 6.7%.

Mr. Wisit Limluicha, Vice President of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Honorary President, Prepared Food Producers Association revealed that the export sector has slowed down in many product groups. It is the main factor of the global economic slowdown, including the rise in interest rates for various countries over the past year. It has begun to have a serious impact and it can be seen from the consumer sector that their purchasing power has deteriorated.

In terms of exports of Thai food products during the first two months of this year, the value of its exports amounts to about 240 billion baht, divided into 115 billion baht of agricultural and food products, an increase of 14% compared to the same period last year. The most exported products include rice which grew by 55%, fresh chilled, frozen and processed chicken which grew by 6.5%, cassava products which shrank by 20% (due to shortage of raw materials), and chilled fresh fruit. Frozen and dried grew by 6.3%.
