Charles Barkley gives deadline for LIV Golf show, details of ‘extremely stressful’ week amid series interest

“When I leave New Jersey on Thursday night, when I leave the golf course, if I don’t have an offer on hand, it’s over.”

That was Charles Barkley’s message to Greg Norman and the LIV Golf Invitational Series during Monday’s appearance Dan Patrick Show.

The 11-time NBA All-Star and current TNT analyst have been courting the Norman-led series over the past few weeks, which will be holding its third event this week at Trump National Golf Club, Bedminster. Last week, Barclay told the New York Post Playing in support of the Bidminster event After he met Norman for dinner in Atlanta to discuss his role with LIV.

“I’m not going to keep TNT in limbo. To be honest with you, I don’t think it’s fair to them,” Barkley explained. “(LIV) I got a lot of play from Jody for playing there on Thursday. So I will not be just a pony without a show.”

The series, funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, has long been criticized as a way for the kingdom to launder its sports rights record. Saudi Arabia has been accused of widespread human rights abuses, including politically motivated killings, torture, enforced disappearances, and inhumane treatment of prisoners. Members of the royal family and the Saudi government have been accused of involvement in the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and columnist for the Washington Post.

Barkley said it’s been “extremely stressful” since news of his interest in LIV and even called on players for their fear of admitting that the decision to join the series was for guaranteed money.
