Kyiv (Reuters) – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a surprise visit on Sunday to the Ukrainian town of Irbin, which Russian forces recaptured in late March after heavy fighting, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Telegram.
“I just had the honor of meeting the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, who came to Irvine to see with his own eyes all the horror that the Russian occupiers have caused our town,” Oleksandr Markushin said on his Telegram channel.
He posted a photo showing Trudeau standing on a street with destroyed and burnt apartment buildings in the background.

Irbin was occupied by the Russian army after the invasion of Moscow on 24 February but Ukrainian forces regained control. The city was one of the hot spots of fighting near the capital, Kyiv. Read more
Canada, like other Western countries, imposed extensive economic sanctions on Russia and sent military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
Trudeau’s liberal government has also created a special scheme for Ukrainians and their families to apply for a temporary resident visa.
