A hundred pigs died in a rollover accident in Evriguet (Morbihan) on Monday morning.

One hundred pigs died this morning after a lorry overturned in Evriguet, Morbihan.

The truck, which was carrying 193 pigs to the slaughterhouse, left the road around 7:00 am. According to the gendarmes of Ploërmel, who confirmed the information from the website of the regional newspaper Ouest-France, the driver tried to avoid the vehicle before overturning.

“Of the 193 pigs that were transported, 80 were still alive before noon,” gendarmes told AFP, adding that “there was no third party victim and the driver was not injured.”

The animal husbandry and veterinary department rushed to the spot.

“One hundred pigs were cared for by the rendering company, while 80 pigs were handed over to the slaughter company to see if their condition was consistent with slaughter,” says the same source.

“Injured animals cannot be eaten. Out of these 80 pigs, some pigs were in suffocation,” the company explained.

The intervention by gendarmes and veterinary services ended around 1:30 p.m.
