An open budget is the reason the government is launching a “retirement lottery” to care for the elderly

A policy has been initiated from the case of the Ministry of Finance “Savings Lottery for Retirement Savings” or “Pension Lottery” or informally “Retirement Lottery” is a policy innovation that uses Thai people's risk-taking behavior as an incentive to save money. Along with the chance to win prizes, there is also cash to be collected. All Pension Lottery purchases can be withdrawn when you turn 60.

It is open to buy “Retirement Lottery” through application of National Savings Fund. (NSA) digital scratch off lottery format, sold to 3 main target groups: 1. NSAC members, 2. Section 40 insured persons and 3. Informal sector workers. A target group may be added later. It can be purchased every day, but not more than 3,000 baht per month, every Friday at 5:00 pm 5 first prizes, 1,000,000 baht and 10,000 second prizes, 1,000 baht each.

Finance Minister Mr. Baffum Rojanasakul said, “Currently, the budget for taking care of the elderly allowance is as high as several hundred billion baht per year. But the said pension lottery uses budgetary funds to operate. The average budget is only 15 million baht per week, 60 million baht per month or 700 million baht per year. Further steps may be taken by further amending the National Savings Fund Act. It is expected to start in 2025.
