Subway and GO Train Service Interruptions Planned for May 30–31
Toronto transit riders are being advised to prepare for major service disruptions this weekend as both the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and GO Transit carry out scheduled maintenance and infrastructure upgrades across key routes in the Greater Toronto Area.
Several sections of TTC Line 2 and GO Transit rail corridors will be temporarily closed on Saturday and Sunday, affecting commuters, eventgoers and regional travellers heading into downtown Toronto.
TTC Line 2 Closure Between Jane and Ossington Stations
The TTC will suspend subway service on Line 2 Bloor–Danforth between Jane and Ossington stations throughout the weekend to allow crews to complete planned track maintenance and state-of-good-repair work.
The closure will begin Saturday morning and continue until regular service resumes at approximately 6 a.m. Monday.
Shuttle buses will operate along the affected eight-station section to help passengers continue their trips. TTC staff will also be stationed throughout impacted areas to assist riders with directions and transfers.
Stations Fully Closed During the Weekend
The following stations will be completely closed during the maintenance work:
- Runnymede
- High Park
- Lansdowne
- Dufferin
In addition, the Indian Grove entrance at Keele Station will not be accessible.
All other stations within the closure zone will remain open for passengers connecting to surface transit routes and accessing PRESTO fare services.
The TTC said Wheel-Trans support will remain available for riders requiring accessible transportation assistance.
“While the TTC does most subway maintenance at the end of service each night, it continues to require early nightly and weekend closures to complete state-of-good-repair work,” the transit agency said in a statement.
Weekend subway closures have become increasingly common across Toronto as the TTC continues modernization work on aging infrastructure throughout the network.
Lakeshore West GO Train Service Suspended West of Mimico
GO Transit riders travelling along the busy Lakeshore West corridor will also face significant disruptions this weekend.
Metrolinx confirmed that train service between Aldershot GO and Mimico GO stations will be suspended on both Saturday and Sunday while construction crews continue expansion work intended to improve future service frequency and reliability.
Partial Train Service Will Continue
Despite the shutdown, trains will continue operating on the following sections:
- Between Niagara Falls and Aldershot GO
- Between Mimico GO and Union Station
However, no trains will operate between Aldershot and Mimico during the closure period.
Passengers travelling toward Toronto from Hamilton and Halton Region stations will need to board replacement GO buses at:
- West Harbour GO
- Aldershot GO
- Burlington GO
- Oakville GO
- Clarkson GO
Riders will then travel by bus to Bramalea GO Station, where they can transfer onto eastbound Kitchener Line trains heading to Union Station.
Metrolinx said additional Kitchener Line service will be added over the weekend to help accommodate increased passenger demand.
No Train Service at Several Stations
There will be no GO train service at the following stations during the closure:
- Appleby GO
- Bronte GO
- Port Credit GO
- Long Branch GO
Transit officials are encouraging riders to check schedules carefully before travelling, particularly those attending large events in Toronto this weekend.
Concertgoers Heading to Bruno Mars Show Advised to Use Alternate Routes
Fans travelling to see Bruno Mars at Rogers Stadium in North York are also being advised to plan ahead due to the overlapping transit disruptions.
Metrolinx recommends riders use GO bus routes 30 or 47 from Bramalea GO Station to the Highway 407 bus terminal. From there, passengers can connect to TTC Line 1 subway service and travel southbound to Downsview Park Station.
The weekend closures are expected to add additional travel time for concert attendees and other visitors entering the city.
Barrie GO Line Replaced by Bus Service
The Barrie GO line will also see temporary service changes throughout the weekend.
GO buses will replace train service at nearly all stations along the corridor on Saturday and Sunday, except for Downsview Park GO and Union Station.
Passengers heading to Downsview Park are being instructed to use TTC Line 1 subway service from Union Station and travel northbound. Riders travelling in the opposite direction can take Line 1 southbound back toward Union Station.
Regular Barrie Line train service is expected to resume Monday morning.
Riders Encouraged to Check Transit Updates Before Travelling
With simultaneous TTC and GO Transit closures affecting multiple routes across the Greater Toronto Area, commuters are being encouraged to allow extra travel time and verify schedules before leaving home.
The weekend maintenance work forms part of broader transit infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving reliability and expanding service capacity across the region, though riders may face delays and crowded replacement buses in the short term.
