From wire workers to fabric artists, Peterborough residents can enjoy the mastery of local artisans and crafters later this summer.
Artisans Centre Peterborough presents the inaugural Creative Hands On Festival, running from Sept. 13-15 at Peterborough Square.
“This festival is very much an opportunity to promote artisan craft and artisans in Peterborough,” say festival organizers Anne Carling and Barbara Bellchambers.
“We know the public likes the opportunity to meet artisans and ask questions and with advertising we expect the event to be well-attended. This is similar to a studio tour all in one place with the appeal of a fun opportunity to try a craft.”
The organizers are extending the call for local artists to participate in the festival. Independent artisans or groups are welcome.
Sculptors, wire workers, leather artists, carvers, fabric artists, glass artists and others who work with their hands to create are invited to take part.
“We will be asking these artisans to demonstrate their craft and talk to the public about it, allowing them to promote their business or next sales event. We are asking if the artisan can provide a quick hands-on teach-a-beginner class in their craft.” Classes will be registered.
The festival has received some funding from the Government of Canada, which means there will be little cost, other than their time, for the artisans who take part.
Those who are interested in participating or need more information can contact Anne or Barbara at 705-775-1797 and leave a message or send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
