The first thing you hear on this album is an audience member screaming “You suck!!” It’s an auspicious start—no, really, it’s a perfect introduction to the gleefully unbridled id of a good punk show, and to to the warm-hearted skeeziness of the now dearly departed Pig’s Ear, where the album was recorded, and where Antixx played their first show.
With song like “Prunk as Fuck” and “This Wasted Life,” Antixx are a band that are sloppy and sophomoric in subject matter (the lyric “I need a place to masturbate! Your butt!” in particular stands out), but that are focused and tight in execution, even amongst the frenetic shredding and abrupt changes.
Also worth noting: as recorded and mixed by Dan Price of Rapid Tension, this album sounds great for a live album—with a full guitar, meaty rhythm section, and only the occasional mic crackle when things get really ridiculous. Gotta keep it a little rough.
Antixx’s Live @ The Pig is available for purchase on Bandcamp.
